Supaloc Racing’ final preparations for the opening round of the Australian GT Championship were completed with a successful test at Mallala on Thursday.

The test day gave the team owner/driver Kevin Weeks an opportunity to build on the knowledge he gained in the previous test at Winton, and the team’s technical director Oscar Fiorinotto a chance to fine-tune the setup of the Supaloc Racing Ford GT.

The efforts of the team were rewarded, with Kevin Weeks significantly improving his lap times compared with the team’s previous test at the venue.

“After Winton, we went over all the data very thoroughly, and gained an in-depth understanding of how the car behaved at a circuit with different characteristics to our home track at Mallala,” Fiorinotto said.

“We were able to use that information to refine our package, and Kevin is a lot more comfortable in the car now that he has learned how it behaves on a different circuit.”

With their preparations complete, all the Supaloc Racing team members are now psyching themselves up for next weekend’s Clipsal 500.

The event will consist of a one-hour race on Saturday and a half-hour race on Sunday. The first race will involve compulsory pit-stops, and Supaloc Racing’s previous record of clever race strategies should give them an advantage in this department.

For the first time, it will be a two-car Supaloc Racing assault on the GT Championship, with Andrew Taplin driving the Supaloc Racing Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 (the car Weeks qualified third last year) in the GT Trophy class.
