Kevin Weeks has qualified his Supaloc Racing Lamborghini Gallardo in 10th position for Round 4 of the Australian GT Championship at Phillip Island this weekend.

Weeks struggled with a lack of engine power in the distinctive Lambo, but his driving skill through Phillip Island's high-speed corners largely compensated for the car's lack of straight-line speed.

According to Supaloc Racing technical director Oscar Fiorinotto, the main area Weeks is losing time compared to his rivals is on the main straight.

”There's obviously some problem with the engine, which is affecting the car's straight-line performance,“ Fiorinotto said. ”Kevin was losing almost 20 km/h to everyone else on the main straight, but through the last sector, he was one of the quickest if not the quickest.

”Unfortunately, we haven't been able to resolve the engine problem at the circuit, so we'll just have to live with it and fix it when we get back to the workshop next week. But on a positive note, the problem has really brought out the best in Kevin's driving ability, as he has had to push the car really hard to be on the pace.

”The forecast tomorrow is for variable weather, and if it rains, the lack of power won't be much of a disadvantage at all. The two races are long and have pit-stops as well, so strategy is really going to play a factor and I think we still have a very good chance of a top overall result,“ Fiorinotto concluded.

Two 1-hour races will be held tomorrow.
