Kevin Weeks and the Supaloc Racing Team are confident of a top showing in Round 4 of the Australian GT Championship at Phillip Island, July 9-11, after a highly productive test day at Mallala last Friday.

The team had the opportunity to test the Supaloc Racing Lamborghini Gallardo in both wet and dry conditions, and Kevin Weeks became more and more comfortable with the car as the day progressed.

“Before the last round at Eastern Creek, we had no time to do a proper strip down and rebuild of the car,” Weeks said.

“Since Eastern Creek, the team pulled the car apart and found a few things with the suspension that just weren't right, and fixed them up for our test day at Mallala. The changes obviously worked because the car was excellent and it did everything right.

“At Eastern Creek, I was locking front brakes and it turned out the ABS system wasn't connected. Once we solved that problem for Mallala, the car was very good under brakes. It was the first time I had driven an ABS-equipped car in competition and you can make up an enormous amount of time by standing on the brakes, even as you start turning into a corner. As I became more comfortable with the ABS, my lap times improved a lot.”

Supaloc Racing Technical Director Oscar Fiorinotto was also very pleased with the team's progress at the test day.

“I think the most significant gain we made from the test day was giving Kevin some track time in both wet and dry conditions, and learning how to adjust the car for the different conditions,” he said.

“The Phillip Island round is very likely to feature all types of weather, based on past experience, so it was important that we knew how to react to changing conditions. We tuned the aero and suspension throughout the day and at the end, we had a fast setup that Kevin was very comfortable with.”

The Supaloc Lamborghini has been painted black and will feature similar graphics to the Tarmac Rally Lamborghini. Photos will be posted on the Supaloc Racing Website shortly.

Overall, Weeks is hopeful of a really competitive outing at Phillip Island, having won last time he raced there, in the Australian Saloon Car Series in 2008.

“Phillip Island really suits the aerodynamics of the Lamborghini, so I think we should be near the front. I'm hoping we can be competitive with Peter Hackett in one of the other Lamborghinis,” he concluded.
