The Supaloc Racing team experienced a mixed weekend in Round 2 of the Australian GT Championship at Phillip Island.

The round was highlighted by Andrew Taplin’s victory in the GT Trophy Class in Race 1. Taplin qualified fourth outright and was competitive all weekend in the Supaloc Lamborghini Gallardo GT3, with the results elevating him to second place in the GT Trophy standings, just four points behind the leader.

Unfortunately, Kevin Weeks endured a much more testing weekend in the Supaloc Ford GT. Weeks showed strong pace in Friday’s wet practice session, in which he was second fastest. Unfortunately, gearbox software problems prevented him from translating that strong practice pace into race results.

After not being able to set a time in qualifying, Weeks charged from the back of the field to seventh position in Race 1. However, the gearbox problems reared their ugly head in Race 2 and he retired after just two laps, not being able to select gears at all.

“This has been another frustrating weekend,” Supaloc Racing technical director Oscar Fiorinotto said. “Once again, Kevin showed plenty of pace in the Ford GT in practice, but because it is still a new car, there are some technical problems we are still trying to solve, and unfortunately these problems seem to occur on race weekends rather than in testing.”

The Supaloc Racing team will work hard on ironing out the glitches in time for the next round the GT Championship at Winton, June 23-24.
